Pizzanomics
A trip up the price ladder, with the rungs marked in pizzas. We start with a tank of gas. The numbers get bigger from there.
How much does a pizza cost where you are?
Currently: $7.50 per pizza
A note on the numbers
Prices are public and approximate, and rounded for readability. Salaries and rents come from BLS, Census, KFF, and Zillow. Net-worth figures track Forbes billionaire pages and move around constantly. Auction records come from the auction houses themselves; real-estate records come from contemporaneous reporting.
Each row links to at least one source. Where the link is to Wikipedia, it's Wikipedia citing a primary source — chase the footnotes for the original.
Switching the pizza price changes every row, but the ratios between rows stay the same. That's the part worth looking at.
Inspired by 1 Pixel Wealth by Matt Korostoff, which makes the same point with pixels instead of pizzas. If this page lands for you, that one will hit harder.
